Primary Purpose The Senior Tax Analyst will: (1) review the work of tax staff, (2) ensure completion of filing requirements and financial statement tax disclosures on a timely and accurate basis, (3) respond to tax and financial statement audits, (4) analyze and quantify impacts of current tax law/proposed tax legislation, (5) research tax positions, (6) identify favorable or simplified reporting positions. They will also manage workstreams for filings, provisions, and inquiries, diagnosing root causes in data or process gaps and implementing solutions that reduce risk and cost.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a 4-year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Typically requires 5 years of related experience with a large CPA firm and/or corporate tax department with tax provision experience.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • Tax Accounting and Reporting - Prepares and/or reviews the quarterly and annual income tax provision and disclosures in accordance with ASC 740, including effective tax rate calculations, deferred tax assets/liabilities, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions.
  • Tax Planning and Optimization - Forecast modeling of effective tax rates and cash taxes in collaboration with FP&A; develops and evaluates tax‑efficient strategies to support business objectives and strengthens long‑term financial performance.
  • Technology and Process - Advanced proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Excel and Word, SAP (or similar GL system), and tax systems (e.g. Corptax, PowerPlan and OneSource Tax Provision). Develops and supports the implementation of scalable processes using technology and automation to streamline tax workflows and enhance data analytics.
  • Tax Compliance - Ensures timely and accurate preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns while adhering to statutory requirements and organizational policies.
  • Tax Legislation Interpretation - Analyzes existing and emerging tax laws to determine operational impact, identify risks or opportunities, and recommend compliant, business‑aligned tax positions.
  • Cross‑Functional Tax Collaboration - Partners with finance, accounting, legal, and operational teams to assess tax impacts of business decisions and ensure accurate integration of tax requirements across the organization.
  • Audit and Examination Support - Responds effectively to inquiries from tax authorities, prepares documentation, and partners with internal and external stakeholders to resolve audit findings.
  • Tax Research and Issue Resolution - Conducts structured research to address complex tax questions, evaluates authoritative guidance, and formulates defensible positions which support compliance and planning objectives.
  • Controls and SOX for Tax - Designs and operates internal controls over tax processes (provision, returns, significant estimates), remediates common control gaps, and governs automation and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the effort to manage the tax requirements for financial forecasting and strategic planning.
  • Investigates and maintains awareness of existing and emerging tax laws, including researching and quantifying any tax impact.
  • Develops knowledge of the industry and the businesses; maintains professional relationships within the department and with key stakeholders.
  • Prepares assigned portions of the quarterly and annual tax provision and documents key judgments.
  • Manages workstreams for federal, state, and local filings, ensuring complete support and timely submission.
  • Performs variance analyses on tax accounts and explains results to finance partners.
  • Reviews junior preparers’ work for completeness and ties to source data.
  • Identifies recurring process gaps and proposes targeted fixes with measurable impact.
  • Coordinates responses to audit and information requests, tracking items, owners, and deadlines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
