About The Position

Whitley Penn, a leading CPA and Consulting firm, is looking for a Tax Senior Associate to join our team! The Tax Senior Associate is responsible for leading tax engagements, preparing and reviewing a variety of tax documents, and recommending tax strategies by researching and interpreting tax laws.  Seniors are responsible for planning and executing engagements and special assignments, supervising and training associates, reviewing work of associates, and communication with clients.  Seniors are responsible for compliance with all professional and regulatory standards.  JOB DETAILS: Classification: Full-time; Exempt Office Expectations/Hours: On site position; general work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8 hours/day between 8am to 5pm with overtime, as needed. Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a proven progression in tax return complexity, scope and research
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; Master’s degree preferred
  • Active CPA license or CPA eligibility
  • Proficiency in use of technology and accounting programs
  • Extensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles the Internal Revenue Code and other official tax laws, regulations and guidance
  • A professional appearance and demeanor
  • A comprehensive understanding of the tax preparation process
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to plan and execute multiple engagements and projects, simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing; actively listens and clearly communicates ideas and information
  • Strong relationship building capabilities; ability to work respectfully and productively with diverse individuals in a variety of roles

Responsibilities

  • Lead tax engagements, including planning and exciting tax engagements, managing client deadline expectations, completing returns, and managing budgets
  • Review and/or prepare 1065, 1040, 1120, and 1120S tax returns, quarterly estimates, extensions and year-end projections
  • Recommend tax strategies by researching federal, state and local taxation issues
  • Maintain compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state and local authorities
  • Develop and maintain a relationship with the client and proactively work with the client’s management to gather necessary tax information, identify issues, and make recommendations for business improvements
  • Respond to IRS and state tax authority inquiries
  • Supervise, train, and mentor Tax staff and interns, including the review of staff prepared workpapers and evaluative performances
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of tax process and Internal Revenue Code
  • Assist with business proposals, networking, and recruiting opportunities
  • Must be highly dedicated with a positive attitude, self-motivated, a team player who takes initiative and willing to learn
  • Participate in technical and professional training throughout the year
