About The Position

MillerMusmar CPAs is a full-service accounting and consulting firm headquartered in Reston, Virginia, serving closely held businesses, government contractors, high-net-worth individuals, and nonprofit organizations. Our Tax Department supports ~500 returns annually, with a growing need for strategic leadership in individual taxation, trust & estates, and international compliance. We are seeking a full-time Tax Manager with strong experience in 1040 review, tax planning for business owners, and exposure to trust, estate, and international individual compliance. This role will serve as a technical leader and reviewer, manage seasonal and full-time staff on individual return preparation, and help build a scalable, quality-focused individual tax function. This is a highly visible position ideal for someone who wants to own and lead a key function in a growing firm.

Requirements

  • CPA license (required)
  • 7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting
  • Demonstrated expertise in 1040 review and related tax planning
  • Solid experience with trust & estate returns and rules (Form 1041)
  • Familiarity with international individual compliance (FBAR, 5471, 5472, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills; ability to lead review conversations and client interactions
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid or remote team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with CCH Axcess Tax, ProSystems Engagement, and Canopy is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Review and finalize ~300 high-net-worth individual returns annually, many involving K-1s, Schedules C/E/F, stock compensation, and flow-through planning
  • Review ~20 trust and estate tax returns (Form 1041) and related filings
  • Review or support preparation of international compliance forms including FBAR, 5471, 5472, 8938, GILTI
  • Serve as a go-to resource for individual tax planning for business owners and families, including year-end planning and estimated payment strategies
  • Supervise and mentor staff and seasonal preparers (including remote contractors)
  • Coordinate with other Tax Department leaders on workload, deadlines, and firm initiatives
  • Collaborate with the GovCon and Accounting departments to deliver cross-functional planning and compliance
  • Assist in staff development, documentation of review procedures, and quality control initiatives
