The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Manager of Tax Planning, you will work closely with the Tax Planning and International Tax leaders to support tax planning and transactions undertaken by the company, and you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by: Supporting and leading projects that include: internal structuring; repatriation and cash management; tax impacts of capital deployment decisions; legislation and rulings; and applying tax rules and regulations to 3M and quantifying the potential impact to the company. Serving as the key tax contact for assigned areas of the business which may include treasury, capital funding, supply chain, and others. Possessing a strong ability and desire to network across functions within 3M. Being a team player with the ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment, with strong influencing and communication skills. Strong understanding of income tax concepts, including US domestic, US international, and foreign issues impacting US taxpayers. Ability to work independently on tax research projects and document findings under direction of senior tax team members. Working closely with the broader Tax organization (transfer pricing, strategy, operations, indirect, US tax and international tax) ensuring cohesive planning. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
  • Seven (7) years combined U.S. income tax experience in accounting or law firms, corporate/industry tax departments, or national tax practices, in a private, public, government, or military environment.
  • Seven (7) years experience working hands on with common tax technical concepts in the US international tax space (ex. cross border reorganizations, subpart F/GILTI, foreign tax credits, etc).

Nice To Haves

  • A Master’s degree or higher with a major in Taxation from an accredited institution
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a willingness to adapt to changing business environments.
  • The ideal candidate will be a highly reliable self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills, be detail oriented, and have the flexibility and ability to work on time-sensitive issues under strict deadlines.
  • Exhibited sense of urgency to drive effective change.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in use of tools such as MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint and MS-Teams to create and share data which facilitate decision-making, in addition to a strong desire to drive process improvement and efficiency through the use of technology.
  • Managing tax treasury functions (e.g., repatriation and hedging strategies) and M&A experience is helpful but not required.
