About The Position

KT is seeking a motivated accounting manager to join our Tax team. Ketel Thorstenson, LLP, is a full-service accounting firm rich in history, serving clients in the Black Hills region since 1936. Currently, we have 22 partners and over 50 CPAs, with offices in Rapid City and Spearfish, SD, and Gillette, WY. The firm offers a variety of accounting services, specializing in the agricultural, construction, hospitality, estate planning, nonprofit, and government industries. Requirements

  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or EA (Enrolled Agent) certification.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a similar field such as Finance or Business.
  • Minimum of five years of tax consulting and/or compliance experience in public accounting or a combination of corporate and public accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of accounting and tax preparation software.
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary and secondary review of complex tax returns using discretion and advanced knowledge.
  • Prepare complex individual, partnership, corporate and other various tax returns, including related research.
  • Research and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Interact closely with assigned clients to provide innovative tax planning, consulting, and compliance expertise.
  • Participate in the firm’s billing and collections process.
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other tax authorities.
  • Develop specialized knowledge as a Firm expert on one or more tax subjects or industries.
  • Continue to develop working relationships with co-workers.
  • Develop higher level relationships with clients and serve as a trusted advisor.
  • Be a source of technical assistance and research by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of laws and regulations.
  • Identify staff development opportunities and assist in planning and presenting firm-sponsored CPE.
  • Research and present public seminars on various technical topics.
  • Develop, train, and coach staff; assist staff with client and engagement management.
  • Work with partners to provide employee feedback for performance reviews.
  • Attend professional development and training sessions regularly.
  • Participate in outside organizations to expand opportunities.
  • Team with partners on proposals and business development calls or presentations.
  • Actively participate in recruitment and engagement activities.
  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and strict client confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned by Partner-in-Charge or another member of the Partner group.
