Youll operate as a trusted advisor to fund managers, guide high-performing teams, and contribute directly to both client strategy and practice growth. What Youll Do Tax Strategy & Compliance Lead tax compliance and advisory engagements for hedge funds and other private fund clients Review complex partnership and corporate tax returns, with emphasis on: Hedge fund structures Investor allocations Income recharacterization Advise on advanced technical areas including securities trading, mark-to-market accounting, fund structuring, and management/incentive fee arrangements Interpret evolving tax legislation impacting private funds and identify planning opportunities Provide guidance on federal, state, and international tax matters, including PFIC, CFC, and withholding considerations Manage multiple engagements while maintaining high standards for quality and client service Client Leadership Serve as the primary client contact, owning relationships, timelines, and deliverables Drive engagement planning and execution in collaboration with partners and directors Identify and implement tax strategies aligned with client objectives Oversee billing, budgeting, and WIP management Build long-term, trust-based client relationships through proactive communication Team & Practice Leadership Lead, coach, and mentor staff and seniors, supporting both technical and career development Foster a collaborative, high-accountability team environment Contribute to training, mentoring, and leadership development initiatives Support process improvements and knowledge sharing across the broader Private Funds tax group Bring forward-thinking ideas and a continuous-improvement mindset to leadership What You Bring Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field CPA license or active progress toward completion 5+ years of progressive public accounting experience focused on private fund taxation (hedge, private equity, or real estate) Demonstrated experience managing client relationships and engagement teams Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex tax concepts clearly Proven leadership, project management, and organizational capabilities Comfort operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment Preferred Experience Review of complex, multi-tier partnership structures Fund-level and investor-level allocation expertise Knowledge of carried interest, incentive allocations, and distribution waterfalls Ability to spot planning opportunities and contribute meaningfully to strategic client discussions Locations Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, OH Baltimore, MD Buffalo or New York, NY Chicago, IL Denver / Greenwood Village, CO Detroit or St. Clair Shores, MI Milwaukee, WI Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, PA Hybrid work model Why This Role Stands Out This is a leadership role for tax professionals who want influence—not just responsibility.
