The firm’s Trust & Estate team supports high-net-worth individuals and families with estate, gift, and fiduciary tax compliance and planning. The Tax Manager – Trust & Estate (Compliance Focused) will lead the preparation and review of complex fiduciary, estate, and gift tax returns. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented tax professional with deep technical knowledge and a passion for client service. The position emphasizes compliance over consulting, with opportunities to mentor staff and contribute to process improvements.

Requirements

  • CPA or JD/LLM required.
  • 7+ years of experience in public accounting or law firm with a focus on trust and estate tax compliance.
  • Strong understanding of fiduciary accounting, trust administration, and estate planning concepts.
  • Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience managing multiple engagements and mentoring staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-net-worth clients and complex estate structures.
  • Familiarity with revocable, irrevocable, testamentary, and grantor trusts.
  • Ability to work independently and manage remote teams.
  • Strong client service orientation and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal and state fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041), estate tax returns (Form 706), and gift tax returns (Form 709).
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns and estimated payments.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and oversee tax deadlines for trust clients.
  • Respond to IRS and state tax notices and coordinate with legal advisors as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, providing technical guidance and review support.
  • Collaborate with trust officers, attorneys, and wealth advisors to gather documentation and clarify tax positions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and regulations affecting trusts and estates.
