In this role, you'll lead and manage multiple state tax audits, including working professionally with auditors, responding to IDRs, performing technical research, and delivering strategic, creative solutions for favorable outcomes.
Research and analyze complex tax issues, preparing position papers, tax impact models, audit protest letters, and IDR responses.
Determine appropriate tax reserve levels in compliance with ASC 740.
Participate in tax planning initiatives, contributing to projects such as R&D credits, M&A transactions, state tax strategies and credits & incentive negotiations.
Collaborate with external advisors on audits, strategic projects, and tax planning.
Support cross-functional teams by communicating audit developments promptly and recommending adjustments to filing positions or reserves.
Monitor legislative changes to U.S. federal and state/local tax laws, assess impacts, and identify opportunities or risks.
Maintain organized and accurate documentation for all tax controversy matters.
5 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelors Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 2+ years of experience.
6+ years of progressive tax experience, including controversy work, in an accounting/law firm or large publicly traded company.
Strong state tax technical skills.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex issues.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
Detail-oriented with excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external partners.
6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD
CPA license or JD preferred, MS in Taxation or LLM is a plus.
