About The Position

The Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations while acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. In this role, Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues, and recognizing, communicating potential risks and potential changes in the tax policy and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation and resolution of questions from federal / state agencies. In addition, the Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services Manager will be critical member of the office / region leadership team and actively participate in the marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization while maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred.
• Six (6) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required.
• Prior supervisory experience required.
• CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent required.
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
• Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

• Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
• Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred.
• Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensures clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens.
• Conducts top level review of T/R and resolves all tax issues with client; involves specialists where appropriate.
• Communicates with client and Assurance any issues identified in tax accrual reviews.
• Plans for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consults with the client and/or partner as appropriate.
• Manages client relationships/expectations in accordance with the project.
• Provides timely advice to clients.
• Plans and reviews the tax process and procedures to be performed, including budgeting and staffing.
• Monitors engagement process and actual time incurred vs. budget with assistance of Senior.
• Ensures timely billing including management of identified out-of-scope activity and communication to client.
• Ensures timely collection of A/R.
• Identifies when research is needed and frames issues to be researched.
• Trains managers/staff on research skills and helps to appropriately frame tax issues for analysis.
• Correctly applies Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
• Assists with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits.
• Confers with STS specialists to determine applicability of STS consulting specialties to each client.
• Develops an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding one or more areas of taxation.
• Introduces and develops new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel.
• Supervises associates and senior associates on all projects.
• Reviews work prepared by associates and senior associates and provides review comments.
• Trains Associates and Seniors how to use all current software tools.
