Tax Compliance Accountant I HI
About The Position
As a Tax Compliance Accountant I, you'll be part of a high-performing payroll tax compliance team that ensures our clients' payroll tax payments and filings are handled accurately, timely, and in full compliance with federal and multi-state regulations. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone with strong organizational and research skills who's ready to grow into a payroll tax subject matter expert. You'll process tax payments, file returns, manage reconciliations, and support audits-all while developing deep expertise in payroll tax laws across all 50 states.
Requirements
- Entry-level experience or coursework in accounting, payroll, or financial operations
- Familiarity with Excel and comfort using financial systems (e.g., MasterTax or similar platforms)
- Ability to research tax issues and apply regulations accurately with guidance
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for working with numbers
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment
- Excellent organizational and written communication skills
Responsibilities
- Prepare and process federal and state payroll tax payments on a semi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
- Assist with preparing and filing multi-state tax returns, including basic reconciliations and uploads to the general ledger
- Respond to tax notices and government inquiries with support from senior team members
- Manage client tax setup and terminations, including documentation related to tax IDs and rates
- Support audits, amendment preparation, and regulatory reporting projects
- Stay up to date with payroll tax rules and compliance requirements for all jurisdictions we serve
