The Office of Administrative Tax Appeals (OATA) is an umbrella agency comprised of the Tax Appeals Tribunal and the Tax Commission. OATA seeks an attorney to review appeals filed by taxpayers seeking not-for-profit (and other) property tax exemptions after said exemptions were denied/revoked by the New York City Department of Finance. Under delegation from the Tax Commission President, the attorney will serve as a Hearing Officer in these matters, reviewing and considering legal and factual claims submitted through written submissions, conducting hearings and taking testimony, and ultimately drafting written determinations that grant or deny appeals. To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) 04 Candidates must be an attorney admitted to practice in the State of New York for at least five (5) years. Candidates must be experienced in using PC software, particularly Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, and Microsoft Word. Appointments are subject to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) approval.
