About The Position
The Tax Auditor position at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts is a vital role within the Audit Division, focusing on tax compliance and accuracy. As a Tax Auditor, you will be part of a dedicated team that strives to enhance tax reporting accuracy and promote voluntary compliance across the state of Texas. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to develop their skills in a challenging environment while contributing to the public service mission of the Comptroller's Office. The role requires a high degree of confidentiality as you will be handling sensitive taxpayer records and transactions. Initially, the position requires in-office work for the first six months to complete Basic Audit Training, which is essential for your professional development. During this training, you will learn the necessary skills to conduct audits effectively, including understanding tax laws and compliance requirements. After the training period, teleworking options become available, allowing for a flexible work-life balance. The position also involves regular travel approximately every three weeks to various training centers in Austin, Dallas, or Houston, with travel reimbursement provided for business needs. As a Tax Auditor, you will prepare for audit engagements, establish audit periods, review current and prior audit files, and conduct thorough examinations of taxpayer records. You will be responsible for developing audit plans, testing internal controls, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws. The role also includes preparing and presenting detailed audit reports, verifying data accuracy, and participating in workload review meetings.
