Maintains, updates, and files property records and provides administrative support within the guidelines of departmental policies and procedures and supervisory instructions. Reports to the Assistant Deputy Chief Appraiser (Personal Property) or other designated person and works with co-workers, the public, auditors, banks, lawyers, businesses, and employees to provide accurate and accessible records.

  • Process real estate transfers/homestead exemptions.
  • Provides assistance with questions concerning property valuations, ownership, parcel locations, business returns.
  • Accepts returns and appeals.
  • Enters data gathered by Assessors' office into computer files.
  • Makes copies of deeds and plats for the Geographical Information System.
  • Types and provides bond letters.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • Answers phones; assists public and co-workers.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Three (3) years customer service and data entry experience, usually associated with completion of apprenticeship/internship.
  • Considerable knowledge of office practices, reporting and record keeping procedures, and generally accepted accounting and appraisal procedures.
  • Familiarity with federal and state laws, County ordinances, and departmental policies regarding property assessments and reporting.
  • Proficiency in map reading, auditing, research, and specialized software used in record keeping.
  • Mastery of operating a computer and standard office equipment.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Possess or have ability to pass the Appraiser I examination as established for this level and to be certified by the Georgia Department of Revenue as an Appraiser I as prescribed by law within 24 months.
