Do you want to assist Vermonters with work that impacts virtually every person in our state?  This position will work closely with Vermont Department of Taxes staff, taxpayers, and many other state agencies and towns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in accounting, economics, business administration, public administration, finance, math, or related field AND at least five (5) years of experience in accounting, auditing, tax preparation, tax processing, financial operations/administration, analytics, or related field AND at least two (2) years of management, supervision, or project management/coordination
  • High School diploma/equivalent of higher degree AND at least five (5) years of experience in accounting, auditing, tax preparation, tax processing, financial operations/administration, analytics, or related field AND at least three (3) years of management, supervision, or project management/coordination
  • Two (2) years or more as a Tax Analyst IV or Tax Examiner V or VI
  • Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive federal tax information.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate challenging topics to individuals with varied backgrounds.
  • A desire to continue to learn and grow.

Nice To Haves

  • Extension tax knowledge
  • Experience in business or fiscal duties.
  • Knowledge of local government.
  • Licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA)

Responsibilities

  • Providing support to taxpayers through both phone, emails and in person.
  • Reviewing returns for accuracy and correcting mistakes or requesting information.
  • Working collaboratively with other staff to ensure deadlines are met.
