About The Position

The Tax Analyst position at American Electric Power (AEP) involves a comprehensive range of responsibilities centered around the preparation and review of tax returns, workpapers, and analyses. The successful candidate will be tasked with computing and recording taxes, as well as preparing forecasts, budgets, and regulatory information. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations and requires a keen attention to detail and a strong understanding of tax laws and accounting principles. In this role, the Tax Analyst will prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns, reports, estimates, and work papers. They will also be responsible for supporting the monthly recording and reporting of tax accruals, which includes reconciling tax accrual accounts. The position requires the computation of taxes for special studies, adjustments, and forecasts, as well as the preparation and review of tax schedules that are included in financial and regulatory reports. The Tax Analyst will actively participate in the federal, state, and local tax audit processes, preparing and reviewing responses to auditor questions and audit assessments. Additionally, the role involves responding to business unit requests for tax information, generating tax information requests, and providing necessary tax requirements. Continuous process improvement initiatives are also a key aspect of this position, as the Tax Analyst will be expected to contribute to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of tax-related processes. Researching tax issues and preparing written analyses and conclusions will be part of the job, requiring strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex tax concepts clearly. The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background, preferably with a bachelor's degree, and relevant work experience in business, finance, or accounting disciplines, with a focus on tax-related roles.
