About The Position

Performs basic to moderately complex tax accounting functions at the Federal, State and Local levels, including assisting with the preparation of federal and state tax provisions, assisting with the preparation and review of estimated taxes and tax returns, assisting with the maintenance of fixed assets for tax purposes, and researching tax issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)) in Accounting, Tax, Business Administration or similar area of study, or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Three (3) years of tax experience in either public accounting or similar areas of industry (in addition education requirement)
  • Experience in Federal taxation with background in ASC 740
  • Intermediate/Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Strong Analytical and Organization Skills
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to think independently and take initiative
  • In order to travel by air or access federal property, federal law requires individuals have a REAL ID or an acceptable alternative. This position may require the successful candidate to travel by air for business reasons, or service federal property. Accordingly, successful candidates must have, or be willing to obtain, a REAL ID, or TSA approved alternative.

Nice To Haves

  • CorpTax provision and tax compliance software experience preferred.
  • General ledger software experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the indirect tax components of the ASC 740 provision, including journal entries, accruals and return-to-accrual analysis
  • Research sales & use tax and fuel excise tax issues, including taxability determinations, exemption applicability, rate changes, and regulatory updates.
  • Assist in supporting SOX control testing, and quarterly/annual audits by internal and external auditors.
  • Prepare and support refund claims for sales & use tax and fuel excise tax, including data gathering, documentation and tracking status with taxing authorities.
  • Assist in the preparation of the tax-basis balance sheet.
  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments.
  • Assist in the maintenance of fixed assets for tax purposes, including acquisitions, retirements, transfers, and gain/loss on disposition of assets. Prepare analyses of net tax value of assets related to potential divestitures.
  • Research and respond to Federal tax notices and correspondence.
  • Provide basic federal tax law information to Federal Tax group on various issues by researching code sections, rules and regulations.
  • Reconcile and prepare periodic analysis on general ledger tax accounts.
  • Assist in generating and responding to tax information requests related to the quarterly and annual tax provision process and review by independent auditors.
  • Support and facilitate open and effective communication with Federal tax authorities, Company management, attorneys and accountants and tax co-source and third-party providers and consultants.
  • Perform Special Projects as needed.
