About The Position

Are you detail-oriented, analytical, and ready to grow your career in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? Werner Enterprises is looking for a motivated Tax Accountant to join our high-performing tax team. You’ll play a vital role in preparing and reviewing key tax filings across multiple jurisdictions—supporting everything from sales and use taxes to income, franchise, and fuel tax reporting. Prepare and/or review returns and reports for sales and use tax, personal property tax, and income/franchise tax.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, or equivalent experience.
• One to two years of tax preparation or accounting experience preferred.
• Ability to meet deadlines.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Good organizational and self-review skills.
• High degree of accuracy.
• Personal computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of general accepted accounting principles.
• Knowledge of tax preparation and accounting systems (may be gained through on the job training).

Nice To Haves

• Transportation experience a plus.
• One to two years of sales and use tax experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Preparation and review of sales and use tax filings, and research related to taxability of purchases and sales in various jurisdictions.
• Preparation of refund claims.
• Analysis of driver miles and fuel.
• Preparation of state fuel tax refund claims.
• Preparation and/or review of personal property tax returns.
• Analysis of information needed for the preparation of these filings.
• Compilation and analysis of information for the preparation of income and franchise tax returns.
• Preparation of state and local income and franchise tax estimates and returns.
• Provide assistance with tax audits.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
