About The Position

The Assistant Manager supports the daily operations of the Williamsburg Winery hospitality experience, ensuring exceptional guest service, strong team leadership, and operational excellence across the winery, tasting room, tavern, events, and related venues. This role acts as a hands-on leader, assisting with staff supervision, guest recovery, sales performance, and adherence to brand standards while supporting revenue growth and cost control initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years of hospitality management or supervisory experience (winery, restaurant, hotel, or resort preferred)
  • Strong guest service mindset with a passion for hospitality and wine culture
  • Working knowledge of food & beverage operations
  • Virginia ABC Manager Certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and lead in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexible availability including weekends, holidays, and special events
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs (cases of wine, supplies, etc.)
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

  • Champion an elevated, welcoming, and memorable guest experience at all times
  • Actively engage with guests, resolving concerns and executing service recovery when needed
  • Uphold Williamsburg Winery service standards, brand values, and hospitality culture
  • Support wine education, storytelling, and experiential guest interactions
  • Assist with daily opening and closing procedures across assigned venues
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) during assigned shifts
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, alcohol service (VA ABC), and company policies
  • Monitor cleanliness, organization, and presentation of all guest-facing areas
  • Support coordination between Front of House, Back of House, Events, and Hotel teams
  • Supervise, coach, and support hourly team members
  • Lead pre-shift huddles and reinforce daily priorities, promotions, and service focus
  • Assist with onboarding and training of new hires
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment
  • Step in to cover shifts or assist departments as business needs require
  • Drive wine, food, beverage, and retail sales through engagement and upselling
  • Support wine club membership growth and promotional initiatives
  • Assist with inventory oversight, par levels, and product rotation
  • Monitor labor efficiency and assist with scheduling as directed
  • Assist with daily reports, cash handling, and POS reconciliation
  • Document incidents, guest feedback, and operational issues
  • Support special projects, events, and seasonal initiatives
