Overview The Tank Leadman is part of a crew, and occasionally supervises crew members, that field erect, fit, weld, grind, and inspect new steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures and that make repairs to existing steel storage tanks, vessels, and structures. This position is skilled craft role that occasionally has Supervisor responsibilities. The role directly reports to the Superintendent and routinely interacts with Erection Crews and Supervisors.

Requirements

  • Typically, 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Weld Qualification/Certification in multiple processes (FCAW, SMAW, SAW, etc.)
  • English is required, Spanish is beneficial
  • SIPP Training
  • Climb structures utilizing appropriate fall protection and available handholds and footholds.
  • Access elevated work platforms and scaffolds through the use of ladders, stairways, or other designated access ways.
  • Work in confined spaces where respirators and fresh air equipment are utilized.
  • Adaptability and Agility to learn and contribute in varying and complex environments
  • Advanced Self-Awareness and Interpersonal skills
  • A consistently developing Business and Technical Acumen coupled with a drive to achieve results
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from managers and fellow workers.
  • Mathematical skills: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Superintendent or Foreman in supervising crew activities, managing daily schedules, and reporting progress at assigned work sites.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, safety protocols, and construction standards; implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Train and mentor crew members in welding techniques including SMAW, FCAW, SAW, EGW, and GTAW, promoting skill development and safety awareness.
  • Oversee and perform tasks such as steel erection, rigging, scaffold setup, and operation of hand and power tools.
  • Interpret construction drawings and coordinate material handling, lifting operations, and secure transport of equipment and components.
  • Plan daily work activities, monitor welder utilization, and align crew efforts with project scopes, schedules, and productivity goals.
  • Apply advanced rigging knowledge to inspect gear, solve load challenges, and collaborate with PMT for safe lifting and preservation strategies.
  • Utilize and maintain welding machines, cranes, manlifts, and rigging equipment, ensuring operational readiness and safety compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams including HSE, QC, HR, and management; bilingual communication (English/Spanish) is a plus.
