Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma, GED, or pass a Combined Basic Skills Test.
  • Demonstrate job-related knowledge/skills of reading blueprints and using common shop measuring devices such as straight edge rulers, welding gauges, and dial gauges.
  • Successfully complete qualification requirements to perform applicable Non-destructive testing procedures.
  • Work effectively and efficiently both as a member of a team and independently.
  • Follow written and/or verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Read, interpret, and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and assembly instructions.
  • Have analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Be safety and quality focused.
  • Be available to work any shift, and be dependable and reliable to show up for scheduled work shifts including overtime, as allowed per the union contract.

Responsibilities

  • Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing prescribed work and prior to entering the tank car.
  • Know and adhere to confined space entry procedures and all other safety rules.
  • Check calibration equipment to ensure accurate readings of LEL oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger meters.
  • Connect high-pressure air, steam and water hoses and operate cleaning rack equipment.
  • Perform manual cleanout of tank interior as required.
  • Remove, clean, repair, test, and apply valves and fittings when required.
  • Apply nitrogen or mineral oil to tank interiors when required.
  • Operate testing equipment to monitor cleaning operation of the system.
  • Ensure that cleaning procedures and equipment conform to company and EPA standards.
  • Maintain work area in a neat and orderly manner and report potential hazards.
