The position involves performing a variety of tasks that require dexterous use of hands and tools, including operating air power tools, cutting torches, drills, and water pumps, as well as pipe cleaning and wrapping. The work typically requires the ability to operate without close supervision.

Requirements

• Ability to read a standard measuring tape
• Effective verbal communication skills to follow directions and respond to questions
• Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions
• Ability to access elevated work platforms and scaffolds using ladders or stairways
• Ability to climb structures utilizing appropriate fall protection
• Ability to work with precise limits or standards of accuracy
• Ability to compare and see differences in size, shape, and form of lines, figures, and objects

Responsibilities

• Assisting skilled craft workers in performing their duties
• Positions, joins, aligns, and fits steel plate and structural sections
• Grinds, polishes, cleans surfaces such as steel plate using abrasive tools or machines
• Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, etc. through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces
• Assisting with scaffold erection
