About The Position

KE&G Construction Inc., a 100% employee-owned company, is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Takeoff Technician to support and enhance our GPS and digital takeoff workflows. The Takeoff Technician assists the estimating team by producing accurate, well documented quantity takeoffs and clear scope definitions for heavy civil projects. This position is vital to bid accuracy, cost forecasting, and risk management across earthwork, underground utilities, paving, structures, and site improvements. What you’ll be doing Quantities & Measurement Perform detailed digital takeoffs for earthwork (cut/fill, shrink/swell, over-excavation), utilities (water, sewer, storm), curb/gutter, base, asphalt, concrete, and structures (culverts, retaining walls). Generate mass haul diagrams, balance reports, and material summaries; apply appropriate swell/shrink factors and compaction assumptions. Calculate trench volumes and bedding/backfill requirements by pipe class and depth; account for overbreak and trench safety allowances. Plans & Models Interpret civil plans, details, and notes; corroborate with specifications, geotechnical reports, traffic control, SWPPP, and addenda/RFIs. Build and QA/QC surface models (existing/proposed), align plan/profile sheets, and verify datum/benchmark consistency. Import/clean survey data (alignments, control points) and reconcile with model geometry. Documentation & Controls Organize takeoff folders, maintain version control and audit trails. Flag drawing conflicts, scope gaps, and bid risks; draft RFI language for estimator review. Collaboration Coordinate with estimators and project managers to align takeoffs with project phasing needs. Interface with field operations for constructability feedback and production rates. Support vendor/subcontractor quantity verification and scope delineation.

  • Utilize Trimble Business Center, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with digital takeoff and civil modeling tools.
  • Solid understanding of earthwork principles (topsoil stripping, moisture conditioning, over-exc, balancing), utility installation (pipe classes, manholes/structures), paving (mix types, lift thickness, density), and basic structural quantities.
  • Ability to read and interpret plan/profile, cross sections, details, specs, and geotech reports.
  • Working knowledge of DOT/local agency standards (ADOT or jurisdictional equivalents), CSI divisions, and construction sequencing.
  • High attention to detail, disciplined documentation habits, and deadline reliability.
