About The Position

The Office of the Commandant (OOC) serves and supports departments within the Corps of Cadets that are critically engaged in all aspects of student development and the delivery of key services and support. OOC departments work to create environments that help students grow, develop, learn, and enhance their experience at Texas A&M by providing leadership opportunities, experiential education, and connections beyond the classroom. This position will be part of a centralized team that supports the active recruiting efforts of future cadets and their families to Texas A&M and the Corps of Cadets. The Tailor receives, handles, stores, maintains, and issues a wide variety of female uniform items for the Corps of Cadets; Responsible for tailoring and altering uniforms; operates all electric sewing machinery; inputs data into computerized inventory system.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Seven years in tailoring related field.
  • Familiarity with electric sewing, automatic blind stitch, and automatic hemming.
  • Word processing, computerized inventory systems.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Computer inventory systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience, advanced sewing, and tailoring skills.

Responsibilities

  • Tailor military style uniforms to include hemming trousers, sewing on patches and name tapes, altering waistbands and trouser leg hems, inserting skirt pleats, hemming sleeve cuffs; repairing damaged garments; purchasing, ordering, and maintaining necessary sewing supplies, nametags/tapes and sewing machines; sewing new RFID tags into uniforms; train student assistants to operate Juki sewing machine; train/supervise wage employees on Juki machine.
  • Responsible for the maintenance, inspection and issuance of female cadet uniforms to include fitting and packing freshmen issue, accurate data entry, labeling; general storekeeper duties to include salvage/surplus uniforms; stock shelves; laundry/dry cleaning duties to include receiving, inspecting, accounting, and re-stocking. Assist business office and men s issuance as needed.
  • Assist in developing purchase plan for female uniform items; communicate with Purchasing Agent regarding shipments; communicate with vendors regarding uniform design; participate in plant visits; Teach and supervise Student Assistant; Review/revise/create uniform specifications as needed; Tailor uniforms for special units, i.e., Ross Volunteers, and work with Director in the creation of new women’s uniforms; assist in other tailoring functions as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
