About The Position

T3i Run Coaches support the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course (NSWPC) by developing SEAL and SWCC candidates through rigorous physical training programming and development at the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory School (NSPWS) in Coronado, CA. Coaches have daily contact with junior sailors. As such, they must adhere to the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with these sailors; and understand the student/instructor relationship, the duties of the Physical Training Instructors, and provide the experienced, professional, administrative, and technical support required to achieve the desired degree of student preparation to accomplish program goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S). Or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Health and Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field or four years equivalent experience working as an instructor or physical fitness leader in a similar field and environment.
  • Each Run Coach shall have a minimum of three (3) years of recent (within the last 5 years) experience as a run coach/instructor in a training environment
  • Must be CPR/AED certified
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certified
  • Naval Special Warfare High-Risk Instructor Certification (Trained on-site) job offer contingent upon meeting all requirements
  • Coaches are required to meet minimum PST standards within 30 days of reporting
  • Physical Training Instructors shall maintain a fitness level and be prepared to pass PST standards every year
  • Must be able to lead sustained group (formation) runs for a minimum of 70 minutes at or under an 8:00 mile pace. While maintaining situational awareness functioning as evolution safety ratio
  • Must be able to rescue aquatic participants, backboard, while comfortable in the water instructing underwater knot tying and drown proofing techniques. (Will receive training but must be willing and able to learn, demonstrate, and teach)

  • As a Federal Government Contractor, T3i is required to strictly adhere to federally mandated drug-free workplace standards. To ensure compliance with this requirement, T3i conducts pre-employment drug screening for all new hire personnel (full time, part time, and independent contractor) and annual random drug screening for all current T3i personnel. All drug screening includes testing for the following drugs, at a minimum: Marijuana (CBD, hemp oil, and other cannabidiol use may result in a positive result), cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, 6-monoacetylmorphine, and PCP. Personnel who cannot pass drug screening are not eligible for employment with T3i.

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science (M.S.) or (M.A.) Master of Arts in Health and Exercise Science, Physiology, Kinesiology, degree preferred
  • It is desired that each run coach has a valid and current Level 1, 2, or 3 USA Track and Field Association run coach certification

Responsibilities

  • Develop specific and tailored run programming for full duty with the guidance and support of the NSWPS leadership and the Head Run Coach
  • Breakdown biomechanics of running in a gait analysis and provide coaching feedback to candidates when performing track evolutions
  • Lead groups stretches injury prevention and self-myofascial release blocks of instruction
  • Properly warm-up candidates through dynamic warm-ups and structured cool downs to prevent injury
  • Understand how to properly fit candidates for running shoes specific to their needs and anthropometrics
  • Demonstrate the points of performance for the exercises associated with the Physical Standard Test (PST), as well as ensure exercises are being performed to the established standards
  • Prepare students for success in SEAL and SWCC selection and training pipelines by working with applicants to maximize their potential in aquatics and physical training modules. This shall include guidance and application of physical preparedness and training techniques for the PST to include, but not limited to, swim stroke development with and without fins, water confidence, running, and lower and upper body development
  • Recommend solutions to establish and maintain database/spreadsheet records of NSWPS students and their status in the Naval Special Warfare Preparatory Course, specifically regarding students’ performance on the PST
  • Teach fundamentals of running academic blocks, injury prevention, stretching flexibility and nutrition
  • Mentor NSWPS students to increase awareness of physical standards for NSWPS programs
  • Provide medical attention to include, but not limited to, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices while awaiting arrival of EMT Paramedics
  • Facilitate training modules in front of candidates in various forums to include, but not limited, to pool decks, classrooms, workout facilities, and podium lectures
  • Plan and execute exit critiques. Collate results in a per class report, along with providing recommendations for curriculum changes based on critique results. Exit critique results shall be gathered from students exiting the Preparatory Course
