The position involves operating taconite handling equipment and performing maintenance and cleaning functions at BNSF's Allouez Taconite Facility, which operates 24/7. Employees will be subject to call and will work various shifts off an extra board. The role includes occasional welding, grinding, and cutting of various metals, as well as fabricating and repairing equipment. Candidates should be able to pass basic welding tests, including vertical, flat, and structural stick welding. Additionally, the position requires operating heavy commercial equipment, and candidates must be able to obtain a crane operator certification. The ability to troubleshoot 24-volt electrical systems and understand hydraulic systems is preferred. Daily responsibilities include maintaining records and time sheets, lifting and carrying various materials, and acting as a watchman when crew or equipment are fouling the track, necessitating constant alertness. Safety is a critical aspect of this role, requiring compliance with company and federal safety rules, policies, and procedures, including the use of required safety equipment and appropriate responses to safety concerns.
