About The Position

This position is for a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Reynolds Young Writers Workshop at Denison University. The role encompasses significant responsibilities in leadership, staff management, administrative and logistical coordination, and residential and safety oversight for the duration of the workshop. Responsibilities

  • Assign specific TAs to lead icebreakers, open mics, and swimming duties.
  • Ensure everyone knows their jobs for the day.
  • Actively monitor the energy of the camp.
  • Shift the evening activity if students seem drained or the TAs are burnt out.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the program director/instructors and the TA team.
  • Act as the first responder for minor student issues (homesickness, student/roommate friction) or TA scheduling conflicts.
  • Make announcements as needed before the morning meeting or at the evening reading.
  • Work with the program director to maintain and update logistics for the week, including airport pickups, van schedules, and room check rotations.
  • Coordinate directly with Campus Security for any building/dorm access issues and van reservations.
  • Oversee the “Anthology TA” to ensure the deadline is met and the files are delivered to campus printing on time.
  • Manage the supplies run list and handle the logistics for birthday cakes or special event materials.
  • Finalize student room assignments and ensure the list is in Security’s hands by the first evening of camp (can collaborate with another TA on this if desired).
  • Ensure the room check process (10:30–11:00 PM) is being executed consistently each night.
  • Lead the final check–work with other TAs to make sure check out procedures (linen stripping, key card collection, etc.) are completed.
