About The Position

The Utility Worker will perform maintenance, repair, replacement, and inspection of all Veolia Water Delaware distribution fire hydrants, valves, pipe, services, and appurtenances. This role involves excavating, repairing, replacing, and maintaining all aspects of Veolia’s distribution system while keeping accurate records of all work done and communicating with all employees and departments.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • 1 to 3 years minimum experience as a plumber/utility/construction worker installing water main and/or appurtenances up to 24 inches in diameter.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic plumbing or mechanical training/courses would be beneficial, but not required.
  • Current Delaware Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required; must obtain per the collective bargaining agreement once hired.

Responsibilities

  • Locate, access, operate, and repair Company facilities such as mains, hydrants, blow-offs, services, curb stops, distribution valves, shutoff valves, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Investigate and diagnose hydraulic variations that may adversely impact system operations and customer service, and initiate corrective action.
  • Operate equipment and drive utility vehicles to perform necessary job functions.
  • Dig trenches to remove defective pipes and install new ones, load and unload pipes and fittings, pour concrete, and caulk pipes as necessary.
  • Perform distribution system tests, including fire flows, customer service lines, and pressure losses.
  • Locate Company underground facilities and initiate requests to mark-out other utilities’ facilities.
  • Raise to grade Company facilities such as curb and valve boxes.
  • Complete the installation of facilities, including water services, main extensions, fire hydrants, valves, and other T&D Crew work.
  • Collect and evaluate water samples in accordance with established water quality practices.
  • Transport materials to and from facilities and/or job sites.
  • Prepare Company facilities for adverse weather conditions.
  • Restore service to frozen Company facilities as required.
  • Record pertinent data and maintain accurate records in the electronic work order system and field tablets.
  • Report conditions in the field that may adversely impact Customer Service or public safety.
  • Respond to inquiries accurately and professionally, involving appropriate individuals to resolve customer and Company-related issues.
  • Adhere to all Company policies and practices at all times.
  • Be available for emergency coverage outside of normal working hours, including some night and weekend emergency work.
