About The Position

This is a full-time non-exempt position with a starting pay rate of $21.05 per hour. The Systems Technician provides technical support and maintenance for the City of Cocoa Beach’s information technology systems to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient operations in support of City services. Under general supervision, this position supports City departments by installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting end-user computer hardware/software. This role requires a strong commitment to customer service, collaboration, and adherence to established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Systems Technician exercises independent judgment within established guidelines and contributes to the continuity of City operations through responsive and effective technical support. Employees may be required to work during declared or undeclared emergencies, or in the recovery phase following emergency events, as determined by the Department Head or designee. Access to Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) systems requires successful completion of Florida Criminal Information Center (FCIC) and National Criminal Information Center (NCIC) background checks. Reports to Deputy I.T. Director.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a networked information system technical support setting emphasizing customer service; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Must demonstrate logical and systematic troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be physically able to operate a variety of computers and their peripheral equipment; hand tools, such as screwdrivers and pliers; and common office machines such as copiers, scanners, servers, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demand requirements are those for Medium Work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain end-user computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, updates, and network components in accordance with City standards.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, and network issues; coordinate maintenance and repair services as necessary.
  • Support onboarding of new employees by creating user accounts, configuring equipment, and providing training on operating systems and standard applications.
  • Coordinate with departments to resolve technical issues and ensure continuity of services.
  • Analyze information processing and operational needs and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, security, and service delivery.
  • Participate in special projects involving research, data analysis, and preparation of reports or summaries.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and software providers to resolve technical issues and ensure continuity of services.
  • Assist with evaluating new hardware and software solutions and provide recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain user documentation and ensure compliance with applicable IT policies, procedures, security standards, and best practices
