Computer and Electronic Product Manufacturing

Markforged is reinventing the $1 trillion+ worldwide manufacturing industry so that engineers can build anything they imagine while reducing environmental impact. The Systems Print Engineers at Markforged are branded as "the 3D printing experts", "engineering's system thinkers", and "the people that can debug any print failure". This is because we are the only engineers that regularly use the printers for applied science & engineering. We can be counted on to go all levels deep into solving the intrinsically hard problems of building "easy-to-use" and "just-press-print" 3D printers. As a Systems Print Engineer, you will become a system-level expert with our printing technology, working on interdisciplinary engineering efforts required to achieve the best-in-class print quality. Your work will cover multidisciplinary engineering topics as they relate to our printing technology to maximize the performance of our printer fleet, with a focus on new product development.

  • Design & build test tooling for in-house R&D on the printer systems, with a unique focus on building software to support these tools and extracting high quality data for future analysis
  • Design experiments, execute test methodologies, build & apply data analysis tooling, and organize data to provide clear technical communication that drive results
  • Create, manage, and maintain a library of standardized scripts and other software tooling for the print engineering team
  • Build robust processes for validating new print systems
  • Characterize and build metrics around print quality and how it reflects system quality to meet engineering goals
  • Own the printer at a systems level to ensure the engineering goals align with the product requirements
  • Coalesce knowledge from surrounding engineering teams as it relates to the functionality of the printing system
  • Collaborate fluidly with other engineering groups to build functional requirements, perform root cause analysis, solve problems, and identify areas for improvement as they relate to the quality of our printed parts
  • Bachelors in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Familiar with Python to aid data collection and analysis
  • Familiar with GitHub
  • Familiar or strongly willing to learn JavaScript
  • Focused on solving problems through hypothesis-driven experimental design and backing up conclusions with data
  • Hands-on experience debugging electromechanical systems
  • Familiarity with CAD, ideally with SolidWorks
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent team player; comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic, interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills
