About The Position

Hog Slat, Inc., the world's largest provider of equipment and turnkey facilities to the swine and poultry industries, is seeking an Systems & Network Administrator. This position is responsible for building, maintaining, and supporting Hog Slat’s IT infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on network design, performance, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or a similar field of study, and 5+ years of systems administration experience.
  • Additional experience may be accepted in lieu of formal education.
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of technologies including but not limited to Microsoft Hyper-V, Microsoft Windows Server, Linux, Microsoft SQL Server, NetApp, Cisco, FortiGate, Kaspersky, Mitel, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
  • Expertise in network technologies include strong proficiency in layers 2 and 3, VLANs, routing fundamentals, and hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting routing protocols such as EIGRP and OSPF.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving issues with minimal support.
  • Ability to manage tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Understand IS policies and procedures and communicate these to the user community.
  • Strong commitment to customer service with good interpersonal communication, presentation, problem solving, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong team player.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and administer enterprise network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, layer 2/3 switches, wireless access points, and wireless controllers, ensuring stable and secure connectivity across all sites.
  • Monitor and optimize network performance, including throughput, latency, link utilization, VLAN segmentation, routing paths, and wireless coverage
  • Implement and troubleshoot network security controls, including firewall rules/policies, VPN tunnels, site‑to‑site connections, and network segmentation strategies.
  • Support and improve WAN, LAN, and wireless architectures, including redundancy, failover mechanisms, and QoS configurations where applicable.
  • Maintain virtualization clusters and hosts.
  • Build and maintain physical and virtual servers running various versions of Microsoft Windows and Linux.
  • Administer SAN/NAS storage infrastructure, ensuring proper network paths, iSCSI, SMB, and NFS performance.
  • Manage key server components including DHCP, DNS, group policy, file services, etc.
  • Manage antivirus servers, maintain antivirus clients on endpoints, and respond to security incidents as needed.
  • Configure, maintain, and validate backup and replication jobs.
  • Provide infrastructure support services to other IS department members.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for the helpdesk team.
  • Operate as a member of the disaster recovery team in test and real world incidents.
  • Work with project teams to resolve complex issues and implement new solutions.
  • Evaluate and recommend necessary changes in performance tuning, infrastructure design, and monitoring.
