Rondo Energy's mission is to eliminate 15% of global CO2 emissions in 15 years. To accomplish this mission, Rondo is deploying low-cost, zero-carbon Rondo Heat Batteries to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and to significantly decarbonize industrial processes that are commonly thought of as 'difficult-to-decarbonize'. Our Heat Batteries charge from intermittent renewables to provide high temperature, continuous heat for customers safely, reliably, at an unprecedented 98% efficiency - and at a cost point that is lower than any other method. We are seeking a Systems Modeling Engineer to build one dimensional models of heat batteries and supporting systems. You will be responsible for coding, validating, optimizing, and using 1D models to enable controls development, inform product design, and optimize operation. Join our team, and together we can reduce global CO₂ emissions by 1% in 10 years, and by 15% in 15 years!

  • Develop one-dimensional, transient models of heat battery components and assemble them into system models
  • Validate your models with experimental data and higher order simulations such as CFD
  • Interpret requirements from controls engineers and create hooks into physical models that enable controls development and hardware in the loop testing
  • Analyze and interpret simulation results, providing insights and recommendations to optimize design and performance for internal customers in product design, applications engineering, marketing, quality, reliability…etc.
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in systems modeling with a proven ability to create models of various levels of complexity
  • Strong expertise in heat transfer and thermodynamics
  • Expertise with a range of software tools and languages such as Matlab, Simulink, and Python
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail in modeling and data interpretation
  • Digital Twin and HIL testing model creation
  • Experience with radiation modeling in thermal simulations
  • Background in modeling heat exchangers, particularly boilers
  • Familiarity with air handling equipment modeling, including fans, louvers, and ductwork
  • Knowledge of HVAC system simulations and airflow optimization
  • Comprehensive Medical Benefits
  • Dental & Vision Benefits
  • Life Insurance and ADD
  • Up to 13 paid holidays per year, in addition to a company week-long holiday in December
  • Flexible time off policy
  • Catered lunches on-site
