Under direction of the Director of Libraries, CSN seeks to hire a full-time forward-thinking, innovative, and collaborative Systems Librarian. The Systems Librarian oversees the implementation, support, and enhancement of various library technologies. The Systems Librarian is primarily responsible for developing, maintaining, and administering the department’s discovery service platform (Ex Libris Alma and Primo VE) that allows students to search for print and digital library research materials to support their curriculum and achieve overall academic success. This position is responsible for content management, reference services, instruction booking, and data analysis using web-based software tools (such as Drupal, EZ Proxy, and Springshare). The Systems Librarian will oversee, maintain and troubleshoot issues with library technology including the website, integrated library system, apps, and other larger initiatives that involve supporting online learning management systems. This position ensures regular system upgrades and evaluates, procures, and implements new technology services and functions. The Systems Librarian is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining processes and procedures that enable successful, barrier-free delivery of physical and digital collections to users while adhering to institutional policies regarding systems design, implementation, security, and patron privacy. This position has shared responsibility for integration of third-party software crucial to resource discovery, research support, and student success. The Systems Librarian is responsible for collaborating with library colleagues to improve systems support and implementing user experience best practices that enhance discovery. The Systems Librarian manages the libraries’ resources integration with other campus systems and serves as the library point-person for the CSN Office of Technology Services, Marketing and Communications, Office of eLearning, and other essential campus entities. As a member of the library team, this academic faculty librarian provides in-person and virtual reference services, collection development, library team participation, professional development, assessment of library services, and evaluation of other library faculty and staff as assigned. CSN Libraries consists of librarians and staff who serve on and complete work through small, flexible library teams focused on areas such as: assessment, management of the library service platform, collection development, communications/outreach/marketing, managing online content (library website), and delivering library instruction. As a part of the tenure-track academic faculty, CSN librarians actively serve the College at the campus level, including participating in the Faculty Senate, serving or leading departmental, divisional, or campus-wide committees, and participating on CSN task forces. The successful candidate will be a student-and-technology oriented person who enjoys engaging in service activities at the campus level through participation on college-wide committees and other campus initiatives. Providing all library services through a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion is a strategic priority for CSN Libraries. This position is based at our Charleston Campus Library, but the designated location may change at the library director's discretion based on the department's needs. The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: A minimum of two years’ experience administering and troubleshooting library software products in a library setting. A record of evidence-based, data-driven decision making. The ability to collect and report statistics for assessment of library resources. The ability to work collaboratively both in-person and virtually. The ability to understand and communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders to develop and maintain working relationships throughout CSN. Proficiency in reference interview techniques. A basis of knowledge in best practices for developing and maintaining collections. The ability to perform independently and contribute to assigned departmental, divisional, and college wide initiatives and projects. Proficiency in report and statistical data preparation to assist with evidence-based decision making. Ability to actively participate in achieving organizational priorities. Ability to participate in and contribute positively to library-wide planning and initiatives. Ability to monitor developments in library discovery systems and related emerging technologies, relevant standards, and their implementations at peer institutions to ensure the library remains innovative and responsive to evolving discovery and integrated library systems and practices.
