The Systems Integration Technician I is responsible for integrating, configuring, and validating complex electromechanical UAV systems, ensuring reliable interaction between hardware, software, power, and communication subsystems. This role sits at the system boundary between development and production, executing structured integration and test activities to validate functionality, performance, and readiness for transition. This role involves working closely with engineers, production technicians, and operations teams to support multiple programs and value streams. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-3+ years troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems
  • Strong hands-on experience integrating hardware and software systems
  • Proficiency with terminal interfaces: Serial consoles, Linux environments, PowerShell
  • Experience with communication protocols: CAN, UART, SPI, I2C (OBD-II familiarity a plus)
  • Ability to read schematics and work with wiring harnesses, power systems, and connectors
  • Hands-on experience with: Multimeters
  • Oscilloscopes
  • Logic analyzers or CAN sniffers (Vector, Peak, BeagleBone Black)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, development-oriented environments
  • Willingness to support extended hours during critical integration or test events

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical training
  • Understanding of aircraft/system performance and log data analysis
  • Basic networking knowledge (Ethernet, IP, TCP/UDP)
  • Scripting experience (e.g., Python) and familiarity with Git
  • Experience with test automation tools and process improvement frameworks (Lean Six Sigma)
  • Exposure to Linux systems and microcontrollers (Arduino, Teensy, STM32)

Responsibilities

  • Integrate hardware and software components including: Flight controllers, microcontrollers, sensors, actuators, radios, and telemetry systems
  • Configure, load, and validate software and firmware builds
  • Execute system-level functional, integration, and acceptance tests
  • Verify proper operation across electrical, mechanical, and software interfaces
  • Diagnose and resolve system-level issues involving: Power distribution
  • Signal integrity
  • Communication protocols
  • Software-hardware interaction
  • Interpret logs, waveforms, bus traffic, and sensor data to identify root causes
  • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, CAN analyzers, and diagnostic tools effectively
  • Follow structured test procedures and test plans
  • Document test results, anomalies, and corrective actions
  • Support development of test procedures, scripts, and automation tools
  • Ensure test artifacts are traceable and reproducible
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Development Technicians, and Software teams
  • Support flight test activities and ground validation as required
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environments
  • Operate with strong safety awareness during powered and flight-capable testing
