We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Systems & Test Engineering Summer Intern to join our medical device new product development (NPD) team. This role offers hands-on experience supporting the development of test methods, test fixtures, and verification activities for innovative medical technologies. The intern will collaborate cross-functionally with systems, mechanical, electrical, and quality engineers to ensure products meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a student interested in applying engineering fundamentals within a regulated, mission-driven industry that directly impacts patient care.

Requirements

  • Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field
  • Incoming Junior or Senior preferred

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Compliance with relevant county, state, and Federal rules regarding vaccinations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laboratory testing or instrumentation
  • Exposure to CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo)
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python, Minitab)
  • Understanding of design controls and medical device regulatory frameworks

Responsibilities

  • Support development of verification test methods aligned with product requirements and risk controls
  • Assist in designing, building, and validating test fixtures and setups for functional, performance, and reliability testing
  • Execute verification testing and document results in accordance with quality system procedures
  • Analyze test data with statistical methods, and summarize findings in clear, concise reports
  • Collaborate with cross-functional NPD teams to troubleshoot issues and refine test approaches
  • Contribute to design reviews by providing test strategy input
  • Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO 13485) and internal quality procedures
