About The Position

Serco is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The successful candidate will have a current full-time Program assignment; with a subset (approximately 20%) of time allocated to Functional Manager duties, which fluctuate throughout the year due to business needs and the performance management cycle. The Systems Engineering Manager will be a part of the Immersive Mission and Training Solutions line of business and will report directly to the Systems Engineering Section Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing functional leadership and direction to team members, ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, managing member performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers), coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/redeployment actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and ensuring their members are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools. The candidate will be the first point of contact for performance issues on programs involving team members and will make decisions regarding required escalation and resources required for resolution. Responsibilities also include day-to-day operation of the functional organization including decisions regarding awards, performance evaluations, salary review process, staffing, employee movement between programs, balancing resources among programs, employee development and mentoring, ensuring proper charging practices are followed, meeting indirect budget targets, and interpreting higher level guidance for implementation within the organization. In addition to the people management responsibilities described above, which are expected to account for an average of 20% of the candidates time, the selected candidate will still perform most of his/her currently assigned project responsibilities. In this role, you will: Lead a team of systems/test engineers performing direct work on multiple programs Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills Use good judgment to pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work closely with program-assigned systems engineering, software development, and management professionals to ensure that the systems lifecycle is accomplished with high quality and efficiency

Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • A Bachelor's degree in STEM with 5 years of systems engineering experience.
  • Full knowledge of system development lifecycle and extensive technical expertise
  • Must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the system development lifecycle.
  • Exceptional leadership skills in order to coordinate collaboration across engineering teams.
  • Demonstrated mastery in various competencies of Teaching, Mentoring, and Facilitation.

  • Proven interaction in a distributed team environment
  • Strong background in systems engineering design, testing, and troubleshooting
  • An advanced degree in Engineering Management or similar
  • Prior experience in engineering functional management is a plus
  • Proven leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills
