Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to join our Integrated Missions System Sector. The ideal candidate will design, develop, evaluate and modify information systems and other network architecture products while ensuring compliance with Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements. The Systems Engineer will collaborate with the Information System Security Manager to keep systems secure, functional, and aligned with System Security Plans, DAAPM/NISPOM, and relevant NIST standards. This role demands a proactive professional with deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions in support of multiple programs. As a Systems Engineer, you will serve as a key member of our dynamic IT team, collaborating closely with multiple operations groups and technical personnel. You will provide comprehensive support for network operations and projects, with a strong emphasis on system security, reliability, and performance.   • Design, develop, evaluate and modify information systems and network architecture products.
  • Ensure compliance with Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Information System Security Manager to maintain system security and functionality.
  • Align systems with System Security Plans, DAAPM/NISPOM, and relevant NIST standards.
  • Provide comprehensive support for network operations and projects.
  • Emphasize system security, reliability, and performance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required and an active Secret security clearance with eligibility for a Top-Secret clearance.
  • High School Diploma and equivalent professional experience (8-10 years) will be considered for talented candidates without a degree or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or a related field with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Possess an active DoD 8570 IAM-I level professional certification (i.e. Security +).
  • 2 years of experience designing, integrating, and maintaining complex information systems across multiple platforms.
  • 4 years of experience with systems lifecycle management, including requirements analysis, system configuration, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with network hardware and infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls) to ensure systems are properly integrated, secure, and performant within classified environments.
  • Experience supporting multi-domain systems and enterprise IT environments, including secure networks (e.g., SIPRNet).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and system integration issues.
  • Familiarity with automation, scripting, and configuration management tools.
  • Professional certifications in systems engineering or related disciplines (e.g., CCNA, CISSP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, secure system design, and compliance with DoD and Federal IT standards.
