We are seeking a Systems Engineer - Level II to join our team supporting the US Patent & Trademark Office ENISS program in Alexandria, VA. This position is critical in performing all procedures necessary to ensure the safety of information systems assets and to protect systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. The Systems Engineer will monitor, evaluate, and maintain systems and procedures to safeguard internal information systems, network, databases, and Web-based security. The role involves evaluating firewall change requests and assessing organizational risk, assisting with the implementation of countermeasures or mitigating controls, and conducting regular audits to ensure that systems are operated securely. The engineer will also be responsible for developing, testing, and operating routine firewalls, intrusion detection systems, enterprise anti-virus systems, and software deployment tools. Safeguarding the network against unauthorized infiltration, modification, destruction, or disclosure is a key responsibility. Additionally, the Systems Engineer will research, evaluate, test, and implement new security software or devices, conduct investigations of information systems security violations and incidents, and ensure compliance with regulations and privacy laws. The position requires coordination and/or performance of additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, including the investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. The engineer will provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, and maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. This role is essential in providing technical consultation, training, and support to IT staff as designated by the government, ensuring the integrity and protection of networks, systems, and applications through the technical enforcement of organizational security policies.
