About The Position

The System Engineer handles the design, implementation, maintenance, automation, and documentation of enterprise infrastructure systems with a primary focus on either Zerto, Exchange (on-prem and hybrid), Active Directory, DNS/DHCP, VMware, SAN, Load Balancers, Rubrik, IBM Hosts, and Citrix. An ideal incumbent has strong technical depth in at least one of these core areas and possesses the ability to spearhead Ansible automation operations, sharing knowledge and helping other engineers adopt and leverage automation practices across the team. This role requires collaboration with IT Operations, Information Security, and vendors to maintain availability, security, and performance standards across Suncoast’s hybrid data center and cloud environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field (A comparable combination of work experience and training may be substituted for education requirements)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting enterprise datacenter or cloud environments, including high‑availability architectures (clustering, load balancing, fault tolerance)
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with one or more major enterprise platforms such as: o Zerto (installation, replication, DR planning, failover/failback, runbook creation) o Supporting IBM AIX, Unix-like systems o Microsoft Exchange (on‑prem/hybrid, mail flow, DAGs, hybrid integration, PowerShell, M365) o Active Directory (forest/domain administration, GPOs, OU design, replication, Entra ID sync, IAM best practices) o SAN deployment, Operations, Optimizations.including SAN switching
  • Advanced expertise in disaster recovery design and execution, especially with VMware and Zerto
  • Demonstrated administration of VMware virtualization, backup/recovery integrations, and enterprise server hardware (e.g., blade systems and IBM servers)
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server 2016–2025, PowerShell automation, DNS/DHCP/IPAM, and Microsoft 365
  • Proven ability to develop and lead Ansible automation, including mentoring others; familiarity with Terraform and IaC principles preferred
  • Experience with enterprise backup tools (e.g., Rubrik), DCIM systems, and creating/maintaining operational runbooks
  • Knowledge of Azure infrastructure, Entra ID, and security hardening standards/frameworks (CIS, Microsoft, NIST)
  • Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult and often complex problems or situations
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties

  • Knowledge of Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) concepts is considered a strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, integrate, and maintain assigned platforms such as Zerto, Exchange, Active Directory, InfoBlox, IBM AIX, Pure SAN, HP SAN, Rubrik, Citrix, and VMware
  • Perform routine health checks, patching, optimization, and apply vendor best practices
  • Provide Level 3 incident response, escalation handling, and service restoration, including after-hours On‑Call support
  • Execute infrastructure changes using approved MOPs and established Change Control processes
  • Lead and expand Ansible automation across IT Engineering
  • Develop, maintain, and document Ansible playbooks for provisioning, configuration management, patching, and compliance
  • Mentor team members on Ansible usage and best practices
  • Integrate automation into existing workflows and support the adoption of IaC tooling such as Ansible and Terraform
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all assigned systems
  • Publish and update ServiceNow KB articles—including diagrams, environment overviews, build guides, troubleshooting steps, and security hardening details
  • Review and update documentation at least every 6 months
  • Implement security hardening based on vendor guidelines and internal compliance standards
  • Maintain evidence of hardening activities and track annual manufacturer recommendations
  • Collaborate with InfoSec and Internal Audit on quarterly configuration reviews and document risk exceptions
  • Administer privileged accounts and access controls, ensuring timely and accurate updates following least‑privilege principles
  • Serve as primary or secondary technical contact for assigned vendor technologies
  • Open, manage, and track vendor support cases, documenting progress and resolutions
  • Escalate cross-functional issues through the IT Engineering Manager and maintain accurate Planner or KB status notes
  • Develop detailed MOPs outlining scope, impact, validation, rollback, and ownership
  • Submit all changes through Change Control and attach validation/rollback results
  • Document all emergency changes retroactively for audit compliance
  • Manage tasks using Microsoft Planner or similar tools, maintaining lifecycle accuracy (Backlog → In Progress → On Hold → Done Review → Done)
  • Provide regular updates for tasks or tickets older than 7 days
  • Maintain visibility and accountability for all assigned ServiceNow incidents, requests, and project work
  • Provide mentorship and cross-training across the IT team
  • Serve as a technical consultant for technology evaluations and purchases
  • Recommend and support the implementation of new technologies to improve performance and reliability
  • Participate in designing and implementing disaster recovery plans for systems, networks, and infrastructure components
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date system documentation, responding promptly to tickets and vendor communications, keeping ServiceNow and Planner records current, executing infrastructure changes through approved change control processes, actively participating in on-call rotations, and demonstrating teamwork, initiative, and ownership of assigned systems
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise
  • Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
  • Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs
