Position Summary The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s IT infrastructure while providing advanced technical support. This role will dedicate approximately 25–30% of time to local IT technician support for a large dental practice and occasionally perform Tier 2–3 service desk support for escalated issues. Reporting to the IT Engineering Manager, the IT Systems Engineer ensures system reliability, security, and performance across a multi-site Dental Support Organization (DSO).

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in IT systems engineering or administration
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field; equivalent experience considered
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, networking (LAN/WAN), and virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V)
  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid environments
  • Ability to provide hands-on technical support and resolve escalated issues
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills
  • Detail orientated and comfortable working a fast-paced office environment
  • Excellent oral communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Desire and ability to learn new skills and be a team player
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting doctors offices and/or dental practices
  • Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, CompTIA Network+/Security+, VMware VCP, or similar
  • Familiarity with dental PMS platforms (Denticon, Cloud 9, DSN Cloud) and imaging systems strongly preferred
  • Experience with ITIL processes and ticketing systems (ServiceNow, ZenDesk, etc.)
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance and healthcare IT standards

Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Engineering
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain servers, storage, networking, and cloud services (Azure or similar).
  • Manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and identity integrations.
  • Implement and monitor backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and best practices (HIPAA, SOC 2).
  • Local IT Support (25–30%)
  • Provide hands-on technical support for a large dental practice, including workstations, printers, imaging devices, and network connectivity.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware/software issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding of local staff, ensuring proper access and device setup.
  • Tier 2–3 Service Desk Support
  • Respond to escalated tickets from Tier 1 support; diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Document solutions and contribute to knowledge base for recurring issues.
  • Collaborate with application teams for integrated troubleshooting (PMS, imaging, ancillary systems).
  • System Monitoring & Optimization
  • Monitor system performance and capacity; implement improvements for scalability and reliability.
  • Maintain patching schedules and update management for servers and endpoints.
  • Support network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and endpoint protection.
  • Project Support
  • Assist with IT infrastructure projects, including new site setups, migrations, and technology upgrades.
  • Participate in planning and execution of PMS and ancillary application deployments from a systems perspective.
