About The Position

deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Systems Engineer in Huntsville, AL. Position Description: The successful candidate will: Serve as a primary Systems Engineering point of contact for product capabilities within one or more agile development teams supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) efforts Author, maintain, and refine system-level requirements and associated governance artifacts using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles in collaboration with Product Owners and development teams Lead or significantly contribute to system architecture decisions, CONOPS development, interface definition, logical software structure, trade studies, technical risk evaluations, and gap analyses Drive detailed requirements derivation, test case construction and traceability, integration planning, verification/validation, and System-of-System (SoS) integration of M&S capabilities throughout the development lifecycle Ensure the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) and associated artifacts (traceability matrix, verification & validation plans, interface specifications, etc.) are maintained, applied, and continuously improved within agile workflows and product lifecycles Drive adoption of agile systems engineering best practices

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant STEM field required.
  • 3-8 years of professional experience supporting Modeling and Simulation (M&S) products or related technical systems
  • Hands-on experience with scripting languages (primarily Python); familiarity or ability to quickly learn compiled languages such as C++ is a plus
  • Demonstrated experience defining, deriving, and verifying system/software requirements in an M&S environment, including traceability and verification/validation activities
  • Applied Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and techniques across software/system lifecycles (tool-agnostic approach preferred; SysML familiarity a plus)
  • Experience collaborating on logical software architecture, supporting detailed design and implementation efforts, and working in agile software development environments (iterative cycles, Scrum/Kanban or similar, clear Acceptance criteria)
  • Practical understanding of natural physics simulation concepts and integration/testing of M&S products within System-of-System (SoS) environments
  • Proven ability to produce technical reports, briefing materials, and communicate complex concepts effectively (written and oral)
  • Working familiarity with lifecycle management tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Applicant selected must have an active security clearance or the ability to attain a Secret security clearance .
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related technical discipline is a plus.
  • Experience authoring and maintaining governance artifacts such as Use Cases, interface control documents/specifications, and executable specifications
  • Prior involvement in development and production of technical Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) deliverables for DoD programs
  • Hands-on experience with real-time and/or non-real-time testing of Modeling and Simulation (M&S) products
  • Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles and their application in defense or simulation systems
  • Exposure to additional MBSE diagramming tools or techniques (beyond core requirement tools) as needed for clarification or stakeholder communication
  • Willingness and ability to contribute directly to software implementation or testing tasks to support team velocity
