The Systems Engineer serves as the requirements authority for engineering projects, working at the intersection of design, operations, safety, and quality assurance. You will be responsible for ensuring requirements are complete, measurable, traceable, and properly flow down through system hierarchies, from facility level functional needs through equipment level engineering specifications. This position requires strong technical judgment to identify requirements quality issues, assess supplier responses for adequacy, and facilitate resolution of technical issues before they impact design, procurement, or operations.

  • Develop and document high-level requirements for new or proposed projects, translating stakeholder needs into technical specifications
  • Facilitate expansion of high-level requirements into traceable lower-level Systems, Structures, and Components (SSCs) requirements with clear parent-child relationships
  • Implement and maintain requirements in systems integration tools (Visure, DOORS, DOORS Next Gen)
  • Establish and enforce requirements quality standards including measurability, testability, traceability, and completeness
  • Conduct systematic requirements reviews to ensure clarity of acceptance criteria and verification methods
  • Lead or facilitate requirements reviews to develop baselines and implement design control
  • Evaluate supplier technical responses and design verification records for requirement compliance
  • Identify requirement gaps, conflicts, and traceability issues before they impact downstream activities
  • Review requirements for proper specification of quantitative parameters, units, tolerances, and performance thresholds
  • Define and document interfaces between systems, ensuring both sides of each interface specify performance parameters (flow rates, pressures, temperatures, data protocols, etc.)
  • Coordinate interface requirements across facility systems (electrical, mechanical, controls, safety, etc.)
  • Maintain interface control documentation and facilitate resolution of interface conflicts
  • Write and critically review technical documents (Design Interface Requirements, Engineering Design Specifications, Design Verification Records)
  • Ensure requirements include appropriate verification methods (test, analysis, inspection, demonstration)
  • Document requirements changes through formal change control processes
  • Prepare requirements summaries and technical presentations for management and stakeholders
  • Support project leads in translating operational needs and safety requirements into equipment design specifications
  • Review equipment designs for compliance, identifying deviations requiring resolution
  • Facilitate design reviews
  • Coordinate with quality assurance to ensure traceability through design, fabrication, and testing
  • Support project leads in risk identification, monitoring, and documentation
  • Assist in developing cost models for proposed projects based on requirements scope
  • Identify requirements driven cost impacts and facilitate trade off analyses
  • Develop and maintain systems engineering standards, templates, and best practices
  • Train engineers on requirements quality principles and systems integration tools
  • Implement model-based systems engineering (MBSE) approaches on projects from concept through detailed design
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical requirements for hardware systems (mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation)
  • Strong technical writing skills with ability to translate complex concepts into clear, testable requirements
  • Experience identifying and resolving requirements quality issues including ambiguity, incompleteness, and conflicts
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system documentation
  • Proficiency in written and oral technical communication and presentation
  • Understanding of requirements hierarchy and flow-down (functional → performance → design)
  • Knowledge of verification methods and their application
  • Familiarity with interface management principles
  • Experience with requirements traceability and configuration management
  • Background in hardware based industry with strict workflow and quality assurance standards (nuclear, aerospace, automotive, medical devices, or similar)
  • Experience working with suppliers/vendors to define technical specifications and evaluate design responses
  • Familiarity with NQA-1, ISO 9001, or equivalent quality control systems
  • Understanding of design control principles and formal change management
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or STEM discipline from U.S.-based ABET-accredited university with minimum 3 years relevant experience, OR
  • Master's degree with 1-2 years of model-based systems engineering (MBSE) experience
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. security clearance preferred
  • Experience using systems integration software (DOORS, Visure, GENESYS, or similar requirements management tools)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) certification
  • Experience with design verification and validation processes (FAT, SAT, commissioning)
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications, safety instrumented systems, or explosion prevention systems
  • Experience in regulated industries requiring formaal requirements management (nuclear, aerospace, FDA regulated)
  • Background in process equipment, manufacturing systems, or production facility design
  • Experience with risk management methodologies and risk tracking
  • Experience with cost estimation and project financial planning
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (ASME, NFPA, OSHA, NEC, ISA)
  • medical/dental/vision insurance
  • short/long-term disability
  • life insurance
  • 401(k)
  • paid time off including holidays
  • tuition reimbursement
