Requirements

  • Security Clearance: Active Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance with Polygraph is required.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution. (Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of degree)
  • Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Linux Expertise: Extensive knowledge of Linux command line operations, including: Advanced file operations. Managing systemd services. Remote navigation and file operations. Writing and debugging shell scripts (BASH). Setting up and managing cron jobs for task automation. Basic system monitoring and performance tuning. Managing software repositories and dependencies.
  • Scripting Skills: Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or BASH.
  • Networking Protocols: Experience analyzing networking protocols using Wireshark.
  • Location: Position based primarily at the Parsons office in Centreville, VA, with occasional local travel to customer sites.
  • Citizenship: All candidates must be U.S. citizens to be considered for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience testing and debugging Client/Server web-based applications.
  • Familiarity with deploying, configuring, and using virtual machine environments (e.g., VMware, libvirt).
  • Experience with Docker/Podman containers.
  • Knowledge of configuring, troubleshooting, and performance testing networking devices (e.g., switches, routers).
  • Familiarity with tools and platforms such as Kafka, OpenSearch, Grafana, and InfluxDB.
  • Advanced understanding of the OSI model and networking protocol analysis using Wireshark.
  • Security Clearance Requirement: An active Top Secret SCI w/Polygraph security clearance is required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Operations and Maintenance: Manage Linux-based software across bare metal hardware, virtual machines (VMs), and containers.
  • Software Support: Test, troubleshoot, debug, and provide expertise during the installation, configuration, and deployment of new software releases.
  • Testing and Validation: Evaluate proposed releases on production-like test environments before field installation.
  • Issue Resolution: Respond promptly to reported problems during and after deployments, resolve issues, and communicate priorities to development teams and leadership.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex system issues and performance bottlenecks, performing root cause analysis for discrepancies and defects.
  • Collaboration: Work with test teams to ensure defects found in the field are included in regression testing.
  • Integration and Testing: Assist with systems integration and testing activities, including documentation and reporting of results.
  • Customer Interaction: Collaborate with customers, developers, and testers to gather requirements, resolve issues, and ensure successful deployments.
  • On-Call Support: Provide occasional on-call support outside of normal business hours.
  • Test Environment Setup: Install software packages on Linux platforms and configure hardware/networking components for internal and customer test environments.
