About The Position

Pantheon Data is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in the design, integration, and sustainment of enterprise health IT systems. The Systems Engineer will play a critical role in translating mission and operational requirements into secure, scalable, and resilient system architectures that support DHA's healthcare delivery and data modernization objectives across the Military Health System (MHS). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with systems integration, cloud and hybrid architectures, and technical documentation, and will be comfortable working across engineering, cybersecurity, and program management teams. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively with both technical staff and non-technical stakeholders to ensure system solutions align with DHA mission needs, compliance requirements, and operational constraints.

Requirements

  • 5 years of professional, hands-on experience in a systems engineering or systems integration role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience designing and integrating complex IT systems in federal or regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of system architecture principles, interfaces, and lifecycle management.
  • Experience working in cloud or hybrid environments (AWS, Azure, or similar).
  • Ability to develop clear and concise technical documentation and system diagrams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively in design reviews and stakeholder discussions.
  • Working knowledge of Agile and/or iterative development methodologies.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting healthcare, logistics, or mission-critical DoD systems.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps concepts and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with systems modeling tools, architecture frameworks, or requirements traceability.
  • AWS or Azure certification(s) preferred.
  • Experience supporting Authority to Operate (ATO) processes or working within eMASS.
  • Knowledge of data-centric architectures and system interoperability.
  • Experience supporting system modernization or cloud migration initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze system requirements and operational needs to design and implement end-to-end system solutions supporting DHA enterprise health IT environments.
  • Support the integration of applications, infrastructure, networks, and data platforms across on-premises and cloud-first architectures, including AWS GovCloud.
  • Develop and maintain system architecture documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), and technical specifications to support system lifecycle management.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, data engineers, cybersecurity teams, and program leadership to ensure cohesive system design and implementation.
  • Support system testing, validation, and deployment activities to ensure solutions meet functional, performance, and security requirements.
  • Identify system risks, dependencies, and integration challenges, and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure systems align with federal and DoD standards, including HIPAA, FedRAMP, and DoD Impact Level (IL) requirements.
  • Support configuration management, change management, and system sustainment activities.
  • Participate in design reviews, technical working groups, and stakeholder meetings to provide systems engineering expertise.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve system reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
