The Systems Engineer in this role will be a key part of our Semi Automated Liquid Handling product development team working on next-generation automated pipetting systems for the life sciences research and diagnostics markets. The person in this role will have a multidisciplinary background and will be responsible for bridging mechanical, electrical, and software engineering to design, integrate, and validate complex automation systems that deliver precision liquid handling for medium-throughput applications.

  • Define and document system-level requirements, interfaces, and performance specifications for automated liquid handling platforms
  • Lead the integration of mechanical subsystems (e.g., pipetting heads, motion systems, accessories), electronics, sensors, and control software into cohesive products
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, electrical, firmware, software, marketing and applications) to ensure seamless end-to-end functionality
  • Develop system models and simulations to predict performance and inform design trade-offs
  • Evaluate, select, and validate hardware components (actuators, pumps, valves, sensors, fluidics) to meet system requirements
  • Debug complex electromechanical issues using systematic root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methods
  • Plan and execute system-level verification and validation (V&V) activities, including functional, performance, and reliability testing
  • Analyze test data to confirm system compliance with requirements and regulatory standards (ISO 13485, IEC 61010, etc.)
  • Support design transfer to manufacturing and provide technical guidance through production ramp-up
  • Author and maintain system-level documentation, including requirements specifications, design descriptions, and risk analyses (per ISO 14971)
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and best practices
  • Ability to mentor less experienced personnel.
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related scientific or engineering field is required
  • Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering preferred
  • Ten or more years of experience as part of a product development team creating complex automated and semi-automated laboratory instrumentation (or equivalent) preferred
  • Three or more years of experience in a systems engineering or systems architect role involving complex semi-automated laboratory automation or equivalent preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD tools a plus
