Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) provides the advanced Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) waveform, giving warfighters 10 times the communications capacity of the legacy UHF SATCOM system. This position will be part of the MUOS SLE SEIT Team! You will be a part of driving a fast pace, Firm Fixed Price program with an established highly energetic and high performing team. Day‑to‑day activities in a Firm‑Fixed‑Price (FFP) mindset: Scope & Requirements Management: Continuously verify that all work stays within the agreed‑upon scope and that any changes are formally processed through a change‑order mechanism. Cost & Schedule Monitoring: Track actual costs and progress against the fixed price and baseline schedule, flagging any variances early to mitigate overruns. Risk Identification & Mitigation: Proactively identify potential risks (e.g., technical, supply‑chain, resource) and implement mitigation plans to keep the project on‑budget. Performance Reporting: Produce concise status reports that focus on deliverable completion, cost burn‑rate, and any scope‑change impacts for both internal leadership and the customer. Stakeholder Coordination: Align internal teams (engineering, procurement, finance) and external partners to ensure all parties understand the fixed‑price constraints and collaborate efficiently to meet milestones. Additional Information This position is based in Sunnyvale, CA. To be considered, applicants must be U.S. citizens and hold an active Secret clearance. Successful candidates will have 8+ years of relevant engineering experience. This position is contingent upon contract award to Lockheed Martin. Estimated award date is currently February 2026. Any job offers extended to chosen candidates will include a contingency clause stating that the offer is dependent on Lockheed Martin securing the contract.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline
  • Hands‑on experience with end‑to‑end systems engineering processes (You've led or contributed to full‑lifecycle activities-requirements capture, design, integration, verification, and technical reviews-ensuring solutions meet mission goals.)
  • Proven track record of customer interaction and technical presentations
  • Proficiency with modern requirements‑management and model‑based tools (IBM DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler)
  • Active Secret clearance (with eligibility for Top‑Secret) and U.S. citizenship
  • 8+ years of relevant engineering experience

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated mastery of systems‑thinking methods used to untangle complex, cross‑disciplinary challenges, and a proven ability to coach teammates in applying these techniques.
  • Direct involvement in designing and testing space‑segment hardware, with practical work on one or more subsystems beyond core Systems Engineering (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Structures, Thermal, etc.).
  • Regularly lead and present at program reviews, technical reviews, and engineering board meetings, delivering clear status updates, risk assessments, and solution recommendations.
  • Solid understanding of FFP contract mechanics, cost‑to‑price analysis, and risk‑management strategies that drive profitable, schedule‑predictable delivery.
  • Experience with configuration‑management processes and tools, and a history of working on projects that achieved Space‑Certified status.
  • Background in designing, or sustaining communication subsystems (e.g., RF, optical, data‑link), ensuring reliable link performance for space missions.
  • In‑depth knowledge of LM's established design‑process framework and design‑assurance principles, enabling rapid alignment with internal standards and best practices.
