About The Position

Nexteer Automotive is looking for a Resident System Engineer with a diverse skill set who enjoys developing & integrating EPS (Electric Power Steering) systems in customer vehicles. The Resident System Engineer will work cross functionally with multiple internal teams (ie software, requirements, mechanical, validation) to successfully take a product from concept to production. The ideal candidate would enjoy working with the customer daily, reviewing and implementing requirements for algorithm development, performing vehicle calibration and evaluation, and troubleshooting complex electromechanical systems.

Requirements

  • General competency in all core engineering fields (mechanical, electronics, computer hardware and software) is preferred
  • Background in automotive engineering and chassis systems (steering, braking, suspension) is preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving techniques and communication skills (i.e. Shainin Red X, Design for Six Sigma)
  • Knowledge of system synthesis, analysis and verification techniques (ASPICE)
  • Experience performing engineering calculations using Matlab/Simulink and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • Must have the right to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN) preferred
  • Familiarity with basic tools that apply to CAN networks preferred
  • Functional understanding of microprocessors and “C” programming language preferred
  • Automotive engineering experience or strong passion to learn
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science

  • Chauffeur Driver’s License preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical liaison to GM, requires 3-5 days per week at Milford, MI
  • Support vehicle builds, re-flashes, troubleshooting at customer site
  • Consolidate and negotiate customer requirements and vehicle specific interfaces
  • Design and optimize simultaneous system performance goals through requirements flow down
  • Effectively integrate all aspects of a design using multi-disciplinary engineering
  • Tune vehicle steering characteristics, diagnosis, and correct deficiencies in designs and prototypes
  • Understand and negotiate system and subsystem specifications
  • Assist in vehicle testing and verification activities
  • Assist in maintaining cost controls
  • Stay abreast of new technology
  • Perform vehicle driving evaluations for steering feel, response, noise, and stability
  • Enjoy driving and evaluating vehicles
  • Coordinate system HiL and vehicle level testing activities
  • Good organization and documentation abilities
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be capable of working within a vehicle for extended periods of time
  • Requires 3-5 days per week in Milford, MI
