The Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) team is seeking a Systems Engineer (Lead or Senior) to join the Laser Communications Subsystem Team located in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will design and develop state-of-the-art satellite systems for space-based applications for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. As system engineers we apply common products, processes, and tools across subsystems in pursuit of programmatic objectives. Our team works with Commercial, Government, and Proprietary Customers in the development and deployment of next-generation technologies and systems in space. The candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide high impact, creative solutions to complex technical problems, the ability to work as part of a large team, and the ability to provide critical support and independent review of the work of teammates. Position Responsibilities: Participates in the creation of the Lasercom Subsystem requirements and leads efforts to allocate and derive performance and functional requirements down to lower levels using DOORS Forecasts and tracks requirements compliance and traceability activities to verify compliance and satisfy reporting obligations with the customer Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure alignment with customer expectations and program goals Develop and execute the overall Lasercom Subsystem verification plan, identify needed verification reports and identify component level artifacts Identify the need for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, simulation and optical bench design to satisfy verification of requirements at the subsystem, unit or component level Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) or technical performance measures (TPMs) for the Lasercom Subsystem to assess progress and identify areas for improvement Product ownership and delivery of Lasercom Subsystem Verification Plan and Artifacts Participates in the identification and resolution of cross-functional technical issues Participate or lead subsystem level trades, including technical, cost, schedule aspects May lead subsystem level duties such as Risk, Issue and Opportunity (RIO) Board or Engineering Review Board (ERB) Ensures contractual compliance by integrating the statement of work (SOW) and technical specification into the IPT workflow May participate in the generation of responses to Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) from the customer Participate in the planning and execution of space system engineering events (e.g., Segment Requirement Reviews, Preliminary Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews, development and production cycle developmental gates) and applies Boeing command media to ensure they satisfy all entrance/exit criteria Represents space system engineering in events led by other IPTs (e.g., Manufacturing and Test Readiness Reviews) Supports the program in additional roles that evolve with the program life cycle. This may include supporting the Assemble, Integration and Test (AI&T) IPT as either a test engineer or in an oversight role to help track and resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs). This may also include performing a similar role at the Launch Site or in the Mission Operations. This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location. This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret and SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
