SUMMARY: This internship offers a valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience in automation software, data systems, and digital manufacturing tools. The intern will support a variety of projects related to Python development, ERP automation, SCADA, industrial device configuration, and data collection. The position contributes directly to improving production efficiency, quality, and process visibility across the organization. This role is ideal for individuals interested in automation, software development, industrial data, or manufacturing technology, and who want to apply their academic knowledge in a real-world production environment.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electronics, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
• Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, without close supervision.
• Problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to identify waste and creatively look for solutions.
• Ability to work with high level of confidentiality.
• Capacity to be flexible and multitask.
• Proficient with computers, including Python, Ignition, Atlassian products, and Git.
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members and leadership staff.

Responsibilities

• Complete projects as assigned within internship discipline.
• Attend Viaflex sponsored training and educational seminars.
• Engage and participate in Viaflex sponsored events.
• Work closely with assigned mentor and manager to reach successful completion of internship.
• Complete summer end internship presentation.
• Demonstrates Viaflex Team Member Values in their daily actions and encourages their teams to do the same.
• May be called upon to perform comparable duties of a similar or related nature and/or assist in other areas as needed.
• Develop Python scripts and applications to automate ERP and machine transactions, machine data collection, and quality analytics processes.
• Build software tools to streamline and automate quality test equipment, data collection, and reporting procedures.
• Assist in the development of Ignition dashboards, data views, and analysis tools to support troubleshooting and process improvements.
• Configure Red Lion hardware, including Modbus TCP communication setup and basic industrial networking tasks.
• Support HMI programming tasks and interface updates for machine operators.
• Assist with installation, configuration, or planning of industrial hardware systems.
• Read, interpret, and analyze production and quality data to support investigations and continuous improvement efforts.
• Help maintain accurate documentation of systems, scripts, device configurations, and data flows.
• Provide technical support on ongoing projects, including debugging, data validation, and troubleshooting automation.
• Assess new tools, automation ideas, and data opportunities, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, and operations teams to meet project requirements and deadlines.
