UPMC is hiring a Systems Engineer (Storage) in or around the Pittsburgh area or someone who is willing to relocate to join their team. The hiring manager is looking for an Engineer who has extensive knowledge of storage technologies and excellent trouble shooting and critical thinking skills. Work Location: Hybrid, mostly work from home however at times will need ON-SITE work within our datacenter in Oakland and Freeport in Pittsburgh, PA. Work Hours: Mon-Fri Daylight. Will be required to maintain 24/7 off-hours support as part of a rotation within the team. Purpose: Under the direction of management and more senior members of the team, the Systems Engineer Intermediate maintains systems, participates in projects, provides end user support, contributes to team documentation, and seeks out process improvement. Requirements

  • Typically has 2+ years' experience with complex systems environments through education or practical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform standard IT procedures and protocols.
  • This position may be required to maintain a 24/7 off hours support as part of a rotation within the team along with periodic onsite datacenter support activities in Pittsburgh, PA area.
  • The frequency varies based upon the number of colleagues in the rotation.
  • Extensive knowledge of storage technologies including SAN, Block Storage and File Based Storage
  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Independently resolve complex issues between systems and storage technologies.
  • Demonstrates initiative to learn and expand upon knowledge as technology evolves.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Brocade SAN zoning procedures and concepts.
  • Experience with Dell EMC and/or IBM storage array technologies.
  • Experience with Intel and/or IBM Power server technologies integration with storage.
  • Experience with Samba (CIFS) and NFS file share concepts.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and critically think through problems and produce technical solutions that are dependable, modifiable, and scalable. Work on end-user support tickets and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Good understanding of systems integration to be able to design solutions that would meet the enterprise need.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills and strong technical learning aptitude required and a strong team player capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Current or Past UPMC employee or contractor.

Responsibilities

  • Core technology concepts - Responsible for showing a basic understanding of designated technologies and their use. Demonstrates the initiative to learn internal processes and procedures.
  • Project Management - Complete basic project-related tasks and tasks delegated by more senior members of the team. Responsible for time tracking and updating documentation.
  • Maintenance/Upgrades - Follow documented procedures for maintenance and upgrades. Responsible for assisting with Disaster Recovery Plan.
  • End user support - Complete basic documented tasks related to end user support.
  • Communication - Responsible for demonstrating appropriate, clear, concise, and effective written and oral communications in all interactions to build relationships and accomplish day-to-day work and projects.
  • Troubleshooting/Critical Thinking - Ability to resolve basic issues or offer input on issue resolution.
  • Self-Development - Responsible for continuous self-study, trainings, partnering with more senior members of team, and/or seeking out opportunities to broaden scope to stay up to date with industry and organizational trends. Seeks feedback from senior team members for development and effectively incorporates feedback into work and behaviors.
  • Interactions with Others - Successfully completes projects, tasks, and initiatives by embracing a team-first approach. Works in collaboration with team and offers feedback, where appropriate, to complete individual and group efforts. Shows the ability to adjust and be flexible to change by adapting approach when necessary.
