About The Position

The Systems Engineer II position is part of the Mission Training Team at Collins Aerospace, located in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role focuses on providing technical excellence in the rapidly growing Air Combat Training market, specifically for system of systems requirements, design, verification, accreditation, and sustainment efforts. The team is responsible for developing state-of-the-art products for cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications, ensuring that U.S. military pilots receive effective and realistic training. The position involves direct customer and end-user interaction, and the team culture is highly collaborative, utilizing a tailored version of the Scaled Agile Framework to meet program goals.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with cryptographic, datalink, networking, and command and control applications.
  • Experience with communication systems, navigation systems, and networks.
  • Experience with design, analysis, test, and certification, integrating them into the Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) Training Environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform system verification and validation, and evaluate alternative solutions to issue resolution, identifying impacts to cost and risk.
  • Collect data and perform standard analysis of data, identifying findings as appropriate.
  • Perform analysis at all levels of the total system product including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Conduct technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Follow configuration process, perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, and provide input on trade studies.
  • Conduct requirement allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
